"I simply do not respect Mrs. Clinton. As a woman. Period"

Fear of Hillary
by Eleanor Clift,
Newsweek

Democrats are full of angst about whether to bet on the former First Lady for 2008. Perhaps they could learn some lessons from the history of Ronald Reagan.

Dear Ms. Clift,
Upon reading your commentary in Newsweek (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12648924/site/newsweek/) I could not refrain myself from writing my own commentary…. :

You begin your Commentary by comparing Mrs.Clinton’s possible electability to Ronald Reagan’s, referring “to the President as a B grade actor with orange hair who won the presidency”, perhaps trying to reduce his stature by this statement and elevating the Senator’s. How wickedly wrong are you…

Mrs Clinton, is so far removed in the stratosphere from President Reagan, that whatever you intend to imply with your statement has moved me to auto induct myself as a commentarist. And I relish at the thought that I can now sit at my computer and transcribe my thoughts as to why I would never vote for Mrs. Clinton and will try to convince others why they should not let her “win big” this November as you insinuate will happen.

I simply do not respect Mrs. Clinton. As a woman. Period. And, Ms. Clift, I believe there are plenty of women out there between the ages of 18-118 that do not respect her. You see, you may think people may be impressed by her scholarly credentials, (as in Georgetown and Yale law School) and her stint as Senator from New York. Her public behavior as a woman does not elicit respect. And one needs only a little common sense to read through her …and her machinations…as in her constantly self-inventing and rhetoric-changing . She has no spine of self-respect.

Ms. Clift, you go on to say that Democrats fear that Bill Clinton’s personality may eclipse her. Yes, he is genuine, she is not. (I could allocate an adjective next to the word genuine but he is a former President and I have great respect for the Office, therefore will leave it at that). You then say that Paul Begala believes that “ if the Republicans attack her in a way that women perceive as sexist, they could trigger a backlash that would favor Hillary.”

I am surprised at Mr. Begala’s quick rush to judgement on women and Republicans. Republicans need not attack Mrs. Clinton personally, they only need to play back her own voiced opinions and stances. Her own comrades don’t really know who she is since they assert, as you write, that “ she is like black licorice, and ( definitely not the Grateful Dead) there’s a huge upside and a huge downside…and we don’t know how it will balance out.” And , as for “women”, well, there are many, who, like me, don’t respect her at all
