Gateway Pundit reports :Mr. Batista, who was frequently quoted in media stories about kidnapping, ignored the State Department's Mexico travel alert. In Mexico organized-crime killings soared to 5,376 in 2008, more than double the 2,477 deaths in Mexico in 2007. Somebody probably should have told Felix that Mexico is more dangerous than Iraq.

Hugo Chavez tries undermining Colombia's democracy.
FARC & Friends by Maria Anastasia O'Grady:...[Colombian] rebel leaders wrote a memo outlining how they planned to position themselves as humanitarians ready to swap hostages for rebel prisoners "in contrast to the stubborn intransigence of Mr. Uribe." Among their demands would be exclusion from the international terrorist list and access to diplomatic missions. "If [Mr. Uribe] rejects it, as he surely will," they wrote, "we lose nothing and instead he will remain isolated and under international pressure."
That plan, too, went nowhere. On Feb. 8 of this year, the rebels wrote that Mr. Chávez had a new idea: to create an international group – consisting of Cuba, Argentina, Ecuador, Brazil, Mexico and Nicaragua – similar to the Contadora Group. Contadora, which was formed in the 1980s allegedly to find a peaceful solution to the Central American wars, in fact provided political cover to the region's Marxists. According to the rebels, Mr. Chávez said that if Mr. Uribe wants to improve bilateral relations, he would have to accept it and "asks that we bring Ingrid to the inaugural."
In preparation for the swap, the group would set up a "humanitarian camp" with "the presence of the press, international delegates and the FARC."
In other words, there is no peace agenda. Only plans for a circus designed to undermine Colombia's democracy. The rest of the region's governments ought to worry about who is next.

Cry for US, Argentina...
After watching the Obama-Clinton debate in Cleveland on Tuesday, I came away convinced that both candidates for the Democratic presidential nomination want to run this country like Argentina.
In that country, Juan Peron-inspired labor syndicates and their bosses dominate the economy and work hand-in-glove with the state. Together they have ensured Argentina's isolation from international commerce and investment, and a slow but steady decline in living standards.

Morales and the Gringo.
Here is a video clip of Jon Stuart giving Evo Morales, the President of Bolivia, a platform in which to espouse all the wonders that Mr. Morales has been doing in his native land.
What I find disturbing is the way the audience reacts to Mr. Morales "achievements".
Jon Stuart's comment about the fact that the interpreter did not look Bolivian reinforced the stereotype of the stupid gringo who doesn't realize that not all Bolivians are full-blooded Indians.
The interpreter, by the way, did a great job.
Gateway Pundit reports on this adulatory reception of a lackey of Hugo Chavez, who is exploiting the racial and economic divide of his country.
We ought to be paying more attention to this growing resentment among the classes.

Che Guevara's "issues" visit Iran.
I had no idea these two were Che Guevara's children, Aleida and Camilo.
They are visiting Iran. John Hinderaker says: "Somehow I don't think we'll be seeing their faces on left-wingers tee-shirts." I agree!

Hezbollah, Muslim missionaries and South America.
These are disturbing developments that Jose Brechner writes about in From Illych Ramirez to Osama bin Laden (English and Spanish versions):
In a nearer and more dangerous scenario which also has Venezuela as a starting point, Hezbollah in Latin America, also called Hezbollah Venezuela, converts to Islam any indigenous Chavista it can, because they are the ones that least understand what is going on. Evangelical missionaries have disappeared from the jungle because according to Chavez they are genocidal spies. Evo Morales in Bolivia repeats Chavez's same words.
Chavez has invited Iranian Shiite "missionaries" to convert the Guajiros and other indigenous peoples in Amazonia. The entire Wayuu tribe is now Muslim, women wear veils while men go to Kalashnikov shooting practice. Some have themselves photographed wearing suicide vests loaded with bombs, and the Venezuelan government distributes the photos, publicizing its friendship with Ahmadinejad and Middle East terrorist groups.
Hezbollah Venezuela refers to Jose Miguel Rojas Espinosa - the mastermind of the terrorist attack against the American Embassy in Caracas - as "the first mujeheddin, an example of strength and dignity in Allah's cause, the first prisoner of war of the Revolutionary Islamic Movement in Venezuela." The group is linked to Argentinian socialist-terrorist Norberto Rafael Ceresole, who is allegedly linked to the AMIA (Argentine Israelite Mutual Association) attack in 1994, and who is the acting ideologue for Chavez and Morales's regimes of Socialism for the 21st Century.

And guests of our closest neighbors...
I wonder how much attention we are actually paying to what's going on in South America...
Some of us are just now hearing about the Wayuu Guajira Indians, the largest indigenous group in Venezuela and Colombia. The Center for Security Policy reports that last October,
the police in Caracas found two explosive devices near the American Embassy. One of the bombs was in a box which also contained propaganda brochures for the Iran-backed organization, Hezbollah. One young man, a student at the Bolivarian University founded by Hugo Chavez, was arrested.
An organization called Hezbollah Latin America claimed responsibility for the attack. Hezbollah Latin America is an organization based in the Wayuu Indian population and also calls itself Autonomia Islamica Wayuu (Wayuu Islamic Autonomy). Its website is written in Spanish and Chapateka (a combination of the Wayuu language and Spanish) and claims activity in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, El Salvador and Mexico. But the backbone of the organization is Venezuela. Their website states: "The brief enjoyment of life on earth is selfish. The other life is better for those who follow Allah." The members of this group are locals and not Muslim in origin and claim to be Shiites, supporters of Hezbollah and Iran.
The Institute for Counter-Terrorism adds:
Latin America is searching for its own identity and the common people are clearly looking forward to a totally different spiritual change. Proof of this is that 20 to 30 years ago, Catholicism claimed almost 90% of the total population in Latin America, whereas today the numbers are merely between 55% and 65%. Latin America is a fertile area for Islamic dawah, and Islamic values are already present in Latin American culture.

Pobre Argentina... tomar parte en este "charade"...
Courtesy of Investors Business Daily:
Chavez Venezuela Latin America demonstrations Kirchner Argentina piqueterosAs Bush prepares a milestone visit to five Latin American democracies, expected to draw a warm welcome from their leaders, a left-wing clown show is getting ready in the wings, courtesy of the regional bully.
...
Note that the Chavez rally will not be held in any of the five countries that are hosting the president — Brazil, Uruguay, Colombia, Guatemala and Mexico — but in probably the only country whose state-paid protesters, known as piqueteros, can fill a stadium with anti-Bush protesters.
For the countries Bush is visiting, something much better than fist-waving rallies will be offered.
