Death Wish
(Pulsion de muerte, por Marcos Aguinis
La Nacion
In a recent article published in the Argentine daily La Nacion Mr. Marcos Aguinis writes an interesting piece recalling Freud's studies on a person's death wish/urge over life. He writes that the complexities of Freud's studies on the subject were revealed immediately after his death with the onset of WWII, during which, an organization of men became in charge of gruesome massive assassinations: the arrogant SS, who, dressed in black, proudly displayed the horrid emblem of "skull and bones" on their caps. The SS, as Mr. Aginis writes, were the arrogant elites of the Nazi party and were in charge of the largest extermination of human beings in history.... This "Human Death wish or urge " caused more than 50.000.000 deaths and Europe's total destruction, especially in Germany, where this "unconscious urge" prevailed.
According to Mr. Aguinis, today's Humanity has refused to recognize this Death wish or urge, which, even if universal, has affected in a very profound manner another beatiful country, IRAN.
Mr. Aguinis mentions a study by a German political analyst from Hamburg, Mr. Matthias Kuntzel, who presented some very disturbing facts. According to the latter the Ayatollah Khomeini purchased from Taiwan some 500.000 plastic keys during the Iraq-Iran war. Khomeini had decided to send legions of children to combat Sadam Hussein's soldiers and they were told that, by wearing the plastic keys on their chests while going to their death, these keys would open the gates of paradise ...One of their assigned duties was to sweep the mines placed in the roads by Saddam's men. The children advanced in tight knit groups, causing these mines to explode on their bodies and clearing the paths for the soldiers . The Iranian newspaper Ettelaat once commented" In the past,[that is, during the war with Iraq], we had volunteer children between the ages of 12-17. They went to the mine fields. They could not see anything with their eyes. They could not hear anything with their ears. And then, after a short while, clouds of dust where everywhere... When the dust settled, there was nothing. Amply bestrewed all over the field were pieces of burning flesh and bone." These horrific scenes had to be corrected and the newspaper assured its readers," Before entering the minefields, the children wrapped themselves in blankets. Afterwords they rolled their bodies on the dirt, so that part of their bodies could remain whole after the explosion,to be then easily transported to a burial ground."...
These children, Mr. Aguinis writes, belong to the Basiji Mostazafan, (Movement for the Oppressed), an organization founded by Khomeini. A distinguished instructor/teacher of said organization is present day President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The Basiji surpass in numbers and actions the creepy Hitler Youth for their fanatic love of death. It is a militia of thousands of volunteers ready to destroy themselves for the joy of it. The Frankfurter Allgemeine published the interview of a veteran Iranian soldier during that war who proudly stated:" The kids destroyed the mines with their bodies. It was almost an enthusiastic race. Even without receiving orders from their superiors, each and every child wanted to be the first to explode." Mr. Aguinis comments that before these children were employed in this massacre Khomeini had used horses and donkeys. However, the animals were not useful since they fled after the first explosion.
The Basiji have grown in numbers and is now is replete with members of various ages. They are presently used to deflate anti-government protests. They had a decisive role during the student demonstrations in 1999 and 2003. While the revolutionary guards are well trained soldiers and adults, the Basiji are children between the ages of 12 and 17 and men older than 45 years, many of them illiterate and without military training. The only thing they are taught is the glory of martyrdom and their voluntary wish to die is demonstrated by the wearing of a red (blood)head band.
The tactics employed by the Basiji is to attack the enemy in hordes/waves. They are known to approach the enemy in tight formations. It doesn't matter if they become themselves the target of bullets, bombs, granades or if they explode on a mine. The important thing is to always advance, stepping on fallen comrades and moving forward, wave after wave. Once the enemy troops start falling or scramming, then the revolutionary guards appear. Mr. Aguinis writes about the impressive testimony made by an Iraqui official, who described the scene..." They came in dense groups, agitating their fists. One can shoot against the first wave of children, then towards the second one. But after a while the piles of lifeless children make you scream, wanting to throw away your arms. They are human beings after all!" During the first three years of that war that lasted eight years, approximately 450.000 children were sent to the front.
The weekly magazine, Der Spiegel, exposed the story of how a child name Hossein was recruited, even with his sequelaes of polio. " On a certain day, the Imam arrived in the town and convened all the townspeople to the plaza, right in front of the police station, to impart good news from the ayatollah Khomeini: the Islamic Army of Iran had been chosen to liberate Al Quds (Jerusalem) from the infidels. Each family had the duty to serve Ala's Army. Since little Hossein was the least needed by his family, and could not enjoy this life because of his sickness, he was chosen by his father to fight against the evil caused by the infidels."
The Islamic Shiite current, predominant in Iran, believes that Hussein, Mohamed's grandson, should have been the leader of Islam and not the caliph Yasid. Yasid persecuted and assassinated Hussein in Karbala. His body was lacerated 33 times with a spear and 34 times with a sword. Afterwords his lifeless body was trampled by horses. This horrible martyrdom is remembered in the festivity of Ashura, were the faithful self-flagellate in imitaion of Hussein and some even self-mutilate themselves to death. The Shiites await the return of the Mahdi or 12th Imam, (equivalent to the Messiah of the Jews, or the second coming of Christ, for christians), the last descendant of Hussein, who disappeared without leaving descendants, and remains hidden until his awaited glorious manifestation.
The ayatollah Khomaini changed course from the traditional posture of the Shiites in awaiting with patience and good deeds. Khomeini did not want to wait. He affirmed that in oder to accelerate the return of the Mahdi the faithful should awaken from their lethargy and fight ferociously against evil. He was inspired by the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, who were not shiites but wanted to fight. Modernity is Evil, with the degenerative individual rights, the sensual stimulation, rational thought parallel to faith and the unacceptable plurality of ideas. Khomeini joined the combativeness of the Muslim Brotherhood (whom Nasser persecuted and executed) with his Shiite creed and imposed in Iran the idea of war with universal ambitions. That is why the children, whose corpses later piled up in the battlefront, shouted to themselves to gain valor: "Aainst the Yasid of our times!" (Saddam Hussein) or, "A new Karbala awaits us!", or, " For the Mahdi 's return!"
Mr. Aguinis writes that Khomeini insisted in his speeches that death is the beginning of a true existence. He affirmed in October, 1980 that, "the natural world is the basest, and only the foam of Creation. What is important is the divine world, that is eternal." For him, that eternal and marvellous world is only accessible through martyrdom. Death is not death, only the transit from an inferior to a superior and more splendid level. It doesn't matter if the warrior wins or looses in battle, only that he dies in martyrdom: therefore, his victory is assured because the doors of Paradise are opened.
Last november, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad inaugurated the last Basiji week. The official numbers cite 9.000.000 members, 12% of the total polulation, who support him. Only in Teheran the number rose to 1.250.000. With this demonstration of power it was clear that they wanted to show that there was no turning back to the weak postures of the previous government. Ahmadinejad even prohibited the officiial radio stations from emitting classical music, considered immoral.
Ahmadinejad said last September, while speaking at the UN General Assembly, that he was imploring the return of the Mahdi. And his apocalyptic position was evidenced in a TV interview, where he expressed emphatically, "Is there anything more beautiful than the art of martyrdom?"
According to the new theological interpretation, the 12th Imam will return only if the faithful throw themselves in a spectacular and decisive war against the infidels. Why then sign agreements or contain the production of nuclear arms? Iran does not need nuclear energy for its peaceful development, because it has plenty of oil. It only needs it for its warlike project, just like Hitler in the past. It advances with a blind urge of Death, that will end up in a universal catastrophe, and one in which Iran itself will not be saved. The planet is threatened like never before.. The unconscious-now, not so unconscious- Death wish or urge is sharpening its knives for another demonic festival, while the leaders of the world deliberate and deliberate, as if they had lots of time to waste."
