Shame, shame, shame on the State Department's Mr. Cooper!!! In an ideal world, we would have respectability and responsibility emanating not only from the press but also from the public (domestic and international) at large. But the reality is that we don't!
We all are offended -at one time or another- by the total disregard of decorum and opprobium by some of our fellow members of the human race. Yet, we don't resort to threats of mayhem, violence, or death at signs of humiliating ignominy.
We are, obviously, a wet-noodle group of effetes.
Ideally, the State Department will come forth to defend all the others who are suffering from this overpowering lack of freedom of speech, just like they have come to those who have slighted the prophet Muhammad.

US sides with Muslims in cartoon dispute
Yahoo! News ^ 02/03/06 Yahoo! News
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Washington on Friday condemned caricatures in European newspapers of Islam's Prophet Mohammad, siding with Muslims who are outraged that the publications put press freedom over respect for religion.
"These cartoons are indeed offensive to the belief of Muslims," State Department spokesman Kurtis Cooper said in answer to a question.
"We all fully recognize and respect freedom of the press and expression but it must be coupled with press responsibility. Inciting religious or ethnic hatreds in this manner is not acceptable."
